One of the most awe-inspiring miracles of the Holy Qur’an is its mention of natural phenomena long before the advancement of modern science. Among these is the reference to deep seas and internal waves—descriptions that align perfectly with recent oceanographic discoveries, proving once again that the Qur’an is a timeless, divine book of guidance and truth.
The Qur’anic Verse
Allah (SWT) says in Surah An-Nur:
“Or [the state of a disbeliever] is like the darkness in a deep sea, overwhelmed by waves, above which are waves, above which are clouds—darknesses, some of them upon others. When one puts out his hand, he can hardly see it. And he to whom Allah has not granted light—for him there is no light.”
(Surah An-Nur, 24:40)
This verse remarkably describes the layers of darkness in deep oceans, a concept confirmed centuries later by scientists. These deep layers are not accessible without modern equipment, yet the Qur’an referred to them more than 1400 years ago.
Modern Scientific Insight
Today, we know that light penetrates only the first few hundred meters of the ocean. Beyond that, there are internal waves that occur between layers of different water densities. These waves are invisible from the surface and were only discovered with the help of technology in the 20th century. The Qur’an’s use of the phrase “waves, above which are waves” mirrors this perfectly—surface waves and deep internal waves both mentioned.
Inspiring Faith Through Knowledge
Such verses inspire Muslims to reflect on the power and knowledge of Allah. For children and adults alike, learning how the Qur’an contains knowledge unknown at the time of revelation strengthens both faith and curiosity.
Teaching Through Online Islamic Lessons for Kids
Our online Islamic lessons for kids make such concepts accessible and engaging. By combining scientific wonder with spiritual insight, children begin to appreciate the Qur’an not just as a religious book—but as a miracle of knowledge.
Sunnah in Everyday Life: A Balanced Perspective
While we learn about the miracles in nature through the Qur’an, the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) teaches us how to live with that awareness. Practicing daily prayers, reciting morning and evening duas, and showing gratitude for Allah’s creation are ways children can bring this knowledge into their lives.
